US FORCES and their allies may be having trouble finding chemical weapons in Iraq but huge stockpiles are gathering dust back home. In a report to Congress on 30 October, the General Accounting Office revealed that only a quarter of the country’s 31,500-tonne stockpile of chemical weapons has been destroyed since the Reagan administration promised to get rid of the lot in 1985.
